    Time sucks

    posted Saturday, 19 November 2005
So next week is Thanksgiven weekend.  Which means that weekend is ULLR weekend in NH, to officially open the ski-season.  Now I planned on going up there this year like 3 months ago.  Well when I say plan, I thought about it.  And this is the tricky part.  Say I had really planned it, put in a vacation request slip months in advance for this weekend off & then I couldn't go.  I would not only not go but loose time out of work & then too many vacation request slips makes you look bad so no vacation slip, no time off, no doing what you want.  It's a vicious circle.

I wish I had a job where I needed to get this, this & this done by a certain time.  That's it.  When I was working for National Cable, I was billing supervisor & entered in all the invoices.  Well it was a 9-5 job, but the work was not a 9-5 job & my managers couldn't understand that.  I would sit around for hours doing nothing, which I hate.  I've gotten better at it over the years, but I still hate it.  I would have to wait for the invoices to come in from the different reps & then wait for the program to run & then wait, wait, wait.  So I addressed this with my manager & made my own schedule.  The work was getting done faster when I was comming in later, staying later & just not comming in at all certain days.  My manager would know in advance, she kinda sorta ok'd it, but in the end they said I had a terrible attendance record & fired me :(

If I know what I have to do I can gauge how long things are going to take & prioritize them.  Unless it has to do with cleaning my room, then it will just never be done.  I need to address this more.  How come I can't clean my room or go on a diet?  Like my 2 jobs are totally different.  The first one I sit around waiting for a phone to ring & the second one, I have tickets that have to be fixed.  I wish once the tickets were fixed I would go home until needed again, that would be sweet.  That's how everything should work.
